Why do blue light glasses turn your screen yellow?

Yellow tinting happens when lenses use heavy surface coatings or amber-tinted materials that block broad-spectrum light. CLÆR SPECTRUM™ lenses use an embedded filtration process that targets only the 400–450nm blue-violet range, leaving the rest of the visible spectrum intact — so colours look accurate and lenses appear clear on screen.

What is the difference between a surface coating and an embedded lens filter?

A surface coating sits on top of the lens and can scratch, peel, and fade over time. An embedded filter — like CLÆR SPECTRUM™ — is built into the optical material itself during manufacturing. Nothing to wear off. The filtration is permanent for the life of the lens.

What does ~55% blue-violet filtration at 400–450nm mean?

It means CLÆR SPECTRUM™ lenses block an average of ~55% of light in the 400–450nm wavelength range — the high-energy blue-violet band most associated with digital eye discomfort. The filtration is strongest at 400nm and tapers deliberately through to 450nm, which protects colour accuracy for screen-based work.

What is SHMC coating on glasses?

SHMC stands for Super Hydrophobic Multi-layer Coating. It is a premium optical surface treatment that reduces glare, repels water and oil, resists scratches, and makes lenses easier to clean. All CLÆR SPECTRUM™ lenses include SHMC coating as standard.

What is UV400 protection?

UV400 means the lenses block all ultraviolet light up to 400 nanometres — covering both UVA and UVB rays. This is the highest level of UV protection available in eyewear. CLÆR lenses show 0.00% UVA/UVB transmittance, independently tested.

Are CLÆR SPECTRUM™ lenses independently tested?

Yes. CLÆR SPECTRUM™ lenses are independently tested to ISO 12312-1:2022 and ANSI Z80.3-2018. The full spectral transmittance curve (380–780nm) is published directly on this page — plotted from raw lab data at 5nm intervals, not estimated or cherry-picked.

Do the lenses have a tint?

There is a very subtle tint. If you hold the lenses up to a white wall you may notice a slight shift — that is physics, it happens with any lens genuinely filtering blue-violet light at this level. On a screen, which is what they are designed for, the lenses read completely clear with no yellow tint and no interference with colour accuracy.
