Not all blue light is the same. Shorter blue-violet wavelengths sit at the lower end of the visible spectrum, close to ultraviolet light. CLÆR SPECTRUM™ is designed to filter most strongly across the 400–420 nm range, then gradually allow more visible light through as the wavelength increases—helping preserve a clearer, more natural-looking screen.
Strongly tinted amber or yellow lenses filter across a broader part of the visible spectrum. The trade-off is a warmer screen appearance: whites can look cream and blues can appear muted, which may not suit colour-sensitive work.

Across the tested 400–450 nm band: the measured filtration averages approximately 55%. This wider-band average gives useful context alongside the up-to-95% result measured across the lower 400–420 nm range.

The Precision of Japanese Lens Technology
The balance comes from the lens construction. CLÆR SPECTRUM™ uses Japanese optical lens technology with filtering properties incorporated into the lens material.
The blue-violet filtering properties are incorporated into the lens monomer during manufacturing rather than relying only on a surface treatment. This construction allows the lens to reduce transmission selectively across the tested blue-violet spectrum while maintaining higher transmission as wavelengths increase.
This is why the lenses do not require a heavy yellow tint to produce measurable filtration. Their performance is shown in the lab-tested spectral transmittance curve.
